Flywheel "The Seahorse" B

Annie “The Mystery Machine” Schubert
Sophomore, Linguistics
Captain, #13

Other nicknames:Shube, Shubes, Shubey-Doo

Annie "The Mystery Machine" Schubert was born in the land of Kokomo (Indiana... lame) and soon moved to Michigan where she was raised by a pack the rare fresh water seahorses found in Lake Fullofit.  These orange seahorses (which inspired Annie's aura to be orange as well) taught her to be energetic and active and, when they felt she was ready, the sport of Ultimate Frisbee as well. She soon became amazing, excelling in both the areas of cutting and handeling and became Flywheel B her sophomore year at the University of Michigan.

Hillary “Happy Sunshine” Katsin
Sophomore, Anthropology
Captain, #20

Other nicknames: Cap'n Katsin, Hilldogg

You'd never know it watching her on the field, but Hillary "Happy Sunshine" Katsin has only recently discovered her athletic side, succumbing to peer pressure and trying out ultimate just a year ago.  Now, of course, she's obsessed with the sport.  She handles with grace and ease, but harbors dreams of becoming an awesome cutter as well, since "they get all the glory" (Katsin, 2009).  Hillary drives the team with her dedication, exuberance, fun-loving attitude, and of course, her sexy calves.  She's a committed Jeopardy viewer with a history of unique obsessions.  When other 8-year-old girls were primping their barbies, Hillary was enamored with stingrays, amassing quite a collection of stingray paraphernalia.  She later moved on to pepper mills, collecting over 60 of them from restaurants around the country. On and off the field, Hillary is completely lovable and shamelessly enthusiastic... except when it comes to studying for Psych exams; then she'd rather stand in the cold for an hour waiting for a free burrito (and, really, can you blame her?).

Kristen “Short but Unpredictably Powerful” Boman
Sophomore, Spanish
#00

Other nicknames: Kbo

Kristen "short but unpredictably powerful" Boman has a violent forehand huck that is sure to leave the competition frazzled with frustration. Her strategic maneuvering and mindset of the game excellently camouflages the 5 short months this rookie has been playing. Her friendly attitude and smile is a shocking contrast to the dedication she puts forth on the field.  Appropriatly, her life motto is to "Do and die." This is by no means a half-hearted team member. When she puts her mind to it, you better get out of her way or you'll feel that thunder of Kbo. The color of her aura is Green. This is a direct relation to growth and nature's balance. She's got the heart of a champion and the sweetest attitude to match. Although her biggest fear in life is drowning, Kristen spent her life on swimming, water polo, waterskiing, tubing, and cre teams.  This girl's hardcore attitude is sure to beat Michael Phelps at his own game.

Nevena “The Lioness” Paripovic
Freshman, Computer Science
#6

Other nicknames: Nev, NevNev

Nevena "The Lioness" Parpovic has been playing Ultimate ever since she made it to the last day of tryouts in August.  The first time she picked up a Frisbee she realized that ultimate was the game to play. Nevena's prowess on the field, queen of the jungle tendancies, and incredible upper-body strength, she comes down with every that come near her. Not only is Nevena a force on the field, but she’s pretty stellar off the field too.  Whenever she feels that a situation is getting awkwardly silent, she’ll have some random outburst (like a roar) that is completely out of context.  So she’s pretty random.  With that said, her all-time favorite quote is something along the lines of “Always behave like a duck—keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath.”  Nevena’s aura is sky blue; this color, like her, is positive, open and friendly.  Finally, if Nevena could have any superpower, she would want to be able to heal herself and others and be virtually indestructible.

Julie “The Healer” Foster
Senior, Global Health and Sociology
#7

Other nicknames: Jules, JUJU

Julie "The Healer" Foster, is all about "cuttin’" on the field; no one ever wants to guard her!  Being the only senior on the team, she represents her class well by darting around the field and always getting to that open space.  She has played ultimate for various different summer leagues but only started to competitively play in the fall.  Everyone loves Julie because of her encouraging words on the field.  Even if she adds in awkward phrases like “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…” every now and again, we still love her.  She CAN be as weird as Dorie though!  She seems to have this corny/punny humor and she sometimes laughs uncontrollably for no apparent reason- go figure!  She claims that “It’s just funny to me”.  Julie may even break out and start singing a song while you are mid-conversation with her- beware!  However, Julie does have a philosophical side to her; that is why one of her favorite quotes is “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give” by Winston Churchill.  In addition to being philosophical, Julie may be described as “geeky” as well.  I mean, who know that the only male in the animal kingdom to become pregnant and gives birth to live offspring is the male seahorse?  She also knows that female seahorses deposit eggs directly inside the male's incubation pouch during the close contact of the breeding ritual.  I laughed when she told me this because the seahorse is the mascot for Flywheel B!! GO SEAHORSE!!

Kim “Salsa” Khalsa
Graduate, Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering
#8

Other nicknames: Krazy Kim, Kimberly

Kim "Salsa" Khalsa (#8) is dedicated to her team, having fun, and always
improving.  Not to mention she's extremely good looking.  She started
playing Ultimate a few years ago but fell in love last summer on her
women's league.  She is open and friendly and often reminds herself to "be
the change you wish to see in the world" as Ghandi told us.  To further
increase her level of intrigue, Kim can also make a clover with her tongue.
As a graduate student in Biomedical Engineering, Kim is in love with pie.
And pi.  She even knows that the Ohio Legislature made the decision to cut
off some numbers off of pi and keep it to 3.14.  Most of all, Kim is an
amazingly funny, caring teammate that we're lucky to have!

Meghan “The Huckster” Lingle
Freshman, Astrophysics
#10

Other Nicknames: Power Socks

Meghan "the huckster" Lingle is a freshman wonder-kid wearing the #10 jersey for Flywheel B. Possesing a turquouise aura due to her naturally high energy level, she is always singing, dancing, and generally making trouble during practice. "It ain't a rule if it ain't worth breaking" she says, proving that her love of country music has certainly not contributed positively to her grammar skills. However, this astrophysics major always gets out of trouble by flashing a sweet little smile in the right direction.

Jeannie “Sex on a Bearskin Rug” Leider
Sophomore, Anthropology
#12

Other nicknames: Bitch Get Off My Man, Jeannie-Lei, Jeannie in a Bottle

Although Jeannie “Sex on a Bear-skin Rug” Leider, over time, lost the snazzy red high top Converses, she is an intense and passionate ultimate frisbee vixen. She enjoys hardcore things like a good cup (or three) of Peet’s coffee, laying out, and cucumbers. Like a flat backhand, she’s direct and means business. Although she’s slightly concerned that one can purchase the virtual immortality of a star from the National Star Registry for such a low price of $54, all of her worries leave her when she’s cutting up and down the field looking for the perfect pass.

Danese “DJ D.J.” Joiner
Graduate, Biomedical Engineering
#26

Other Nicknames: Speeded DJ, DJ Speedy

Danese "DJ D.J." Joiner spins on the tables, just as hip and funky as she spins around her opponents on the field.  Just like a DJ has two turntables, this DJ is a dual force on the field, breaking out her funky cuts and jazzy throws.  When she's not working in the Engineering lab, playing frisbee, or dancing, Danse moonlights, guest DJing at Detroit's hottest dance-clubs and radio stations. She also hosts hip parties, kicks ass, and takes names.

Kristen “Suffolk County” Marotta
Freshman, English
#27

Other Nicknames: Kristeeeeeeen (with Long Island accent)

Kristen "Suffolk County" Marotta has her fair share of speed cutting on the field, but can talk even faster.  Hailing from Suffolk County Long Island, the rookie lives up to her repuatation of New York attitude, and doesn't take a hard time from anyone on the field, teammates and opponents alike. Even though her self-described social strenth is giving people dirty looks, and she won't get in an elevator, she still finds time for optimism.  Her favorite quote is "Hakuna Matata," and insists on wearing "ear-muffins", regardless of what other people say.

Lindsay “Let’s Get Some Shoes” Brentin
Freshman, Neuroscience
#36

Other Nicknames: Lindz, Girl

Lindsay “Let’s Get Some Shoes” Brentin’s all-star career in ultimate started when the heel of her size 7.5 Marc Jacobs stiletto picked up a piece of paper that had been slipped under her door.  Standing by her keen intuition, her motto “go hardcore or go home,” and the allure of a new pair of cleats, Brentin began to work day and night honing her speed and agility as a cutter.  Living solely on a diet of organic peanut butter and coffee, Brentin doesn’t sleep, instead spending her free time playing ultimate, shoe shopping (online or in stores), and practicing a shaky open-heart surgery on opponents who think they can D her.  The choice is yours.

Adrienne “The Tank” Lemberger
Freshman, Engineering Undecided
#40

Other Nicknames: The Drummer, Adrieeeeeenne (in Rocky voice)

Adrienne “The Tank” Lemberger is relentless, in all aspects of life.  This girl’s got determination, and you’ll see it when she catches the disc in the endzone above all her defenders.  When she’s not pounding a bongo for the Michigan drumline, or studying mechanics of engineering, you might find her baking cookies for friends.   Formerly a Buckeye, but now a Wolverine, The Tank spits maize and blue fire from her eyes when angered….watch out.

Kayla “Obi Wan” Bates
Junior, Sociology
#67

Other Nicknames: Special K, The Godmother

Kayla "Obi-Wan" Bates is a formidable force at any position on the ultimate field. Stemming from her 3 years with Flywheel B ("The best team," she says), Kayla is both the most knowledgable and experienced player on the team, and often directs the rest of the young padawans around the field. Every day, she braves the elements and hikes through the rugged Ann Arbor wilderness all the way from her North Campus home to get to practice. Somewhat fittingly, her favorite quote is "It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters, in the end." If ultimate practice is her end, then I guess we can agree that Kayla's feet should be thoroughly protected on the way. And even though her aura exudes a cool blue color, you should be careful before you cross her - if you make her play in regionals with only 6 players again, she will “KILL you!"

Jenny “The Regulator” Lee
Graduate, Materials Science and Engineering
#97

Other Nicknames: Jenaaay (cockney accent)

Jenny "The Regulator" Lee is a Ph.D graduate student in materials science and engineering. She is also a force on the field.  Her no-nonsense attitude and physical cuts and Ds on the field strike fear in the hearts of her opponents (and teammates, from time to time).  She began playing ultimate frisbee the summer of 2008 and exhibits great leadership and organization, taking control, and dictating how her game is going to be played. In her spare time she enjoys gardening and giving her dog Gibbs unique hair cuts.

Lola “The Silent Dragon” Liu
Sophomore, Majoring in Finance and Business

Other Nicknames: LiuLiu

“Her name is Lola, she is a showgirl. With yellow feathers in her hair, and a dress cut down to there…” Or maybe just a yellow jersey. This show girl really puts on a show for all as she cuts through the field and catches anything thrown at her. Not only that, but she is also super small and can fit into any small place with a lot of people; aka watch out cause she will be the only one to catch the Frisbee in a huge group of people. This little ball of fun loves to relax with a bunch of pillows after a long day of Ultimate, but by the time she falls asleep, she pushes all the pillows away. Weird, but it’s alright, she can program like no one’s business and she likes Ultimate, so we kinda like her. She tends to be a quiet person, which tricks everyone into thinking she can’t play ultimate, until she busts a move. The Silent Dragon will strike, buy you don’t know where, and you don’t know when. So if I were you, I’d watch yo back.
